Today Pau Lopez gets married, and it could also be the day Tottenham and Espanyol finally agree on his transfer.

The 22 year became an Espanyol player again on Saturday after his loan period with Tottenham ran out, and so did the Premier League club’s €7m option to buy him. Tottenham hadn’t wanted to pay so much and their final offer didn’t go above €2m plus a percentage of a future sale.

Espanyol stood form and, subsequently, Tottenham were forced to pay the Spanish club a €500k penalty, agreed at the outset if Spurs didn’t take up the clause.

Tottenham and Espanyol have now reopened talks, report Sport, and a deal is ‘very close’. So close that it could even be announced soon, say the Catalan newspaper.

A deal will be done at €2.5m, and Sport seem to believe the €500k is included in that. Crucially, there’ll be bonuses on top of that amount, rather than the amount being reliant on bonuses.

This could all have a positive concludison very son, a nice little wedding present for Mr and Mrs Lopez.
