As Sporting continue to push for the signing of Vitória Guimarães winger Marcus Edwards, the Portuguese media features several stories about it today.
One of the factors delaying the transfer for now is the lack of a financial agreement, and that may have to do with a percentage that Tottenham Hotspur are getting from the move.
When letting the player go to Vitória in 2020, Spurs demanded to have 50% of a future move. So now when negotiating his sale, the Guimarães side can’t make big discounts for Sporting, or they’ll end up making too little with the negotiation, as half is going to England.
However, a solution is now pointed out by newspaper O Jogo, who claims Tottenham may not be in a hurry to get their share of the money.
It’s said that just like in the last summer, when Sporting were already negotiating for the player, the London side ‘accept’ to postpone receiving that payment, and there’s a very good reason for that.
That way Tottenham would keep their percentage in Edwards’ contract with the Lions, and with the Lisbon club being much more likely to make a big sale, then Spurs would get more money.
Now even though O Jogo only talks about Sporting’s interest in Edwards, Record features a report saying Vitória Guimarães told the Lions they received an offer from England.
It isn’t revealed who the club are or how much they’re putting on the table, but in case it’s accepted, then a few million would be going to the White Hart Lane this month anyway.
