Bayer Leverkusen could be gearing up to sell defender Piero Hincapié this summer amid interest from Tottenham.
That’s according to BILD, who cover the German club today and ‘consequences’ in the summer following what has been a ‘crisis season’.
They say that Leverkusen are gearing up for there to be ‘mega upheaval’ at the club in the coming months, with them currently 10th in the season and set to miss all of their season goals.
That could lead to major changes in the squad, with sports boss Simon Rolfes admitting as much in recent comments.
“It’s going to be a different summer than the last one. There will be a lot more movement simply because of the contract terms,” he told Kicker.
Hincapié is not one of those whose contract is expiring or due to enter its final year, with his current deal running until 2026.
However, there is very much a belief he could move, though, with it explained that he is one of four players ‘hotly courted’ in England and could bring in ‘well over €100m’ in transfer fees should they all depart.
They name Tottenham as the main interested in the 21-year-old and that has certainly been the case in recent months, with several reports linking Spurs with a move.
They were first linked in July last year, with a report following that in October stating they were following him with ‘some interest’.
It was then claimed at the end of December that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici wanted to ‘burn the competition’ and get him with a January bid mooted.
That never happened but it seems that Leverkusen are now bracing themselves to lose the player, with Rolfes admitting that “we will use the summer to realign the squad and make it more ambitious. Even in the event of a Euro Qualification!”
The belief there is seemingly that Hincapié is one of several who could move, but whether that is to Tottenham remains to be seen.
