Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Atalanta defender Cristian Romero continues to be one of the hot topics in the Italian media, with reports on Thursday morning saying the Serie A side are ‘still confident’ they’ll sell him to Spurs.

Barcelona have also been pointed out as contenders, with that same story now mentioning that his compatriot Lionel Messi would like to have him at the club, even though the Camp Nou side currently ‘lack resources’ for the signing.

Now we get the confirmation for that coming from the Catalan media. As Mundo Deportivo backs up Barça’s interest, they also talk about the conditions for a potential deal.

The outlet claims that Barcelona would only be able to make the signing if on a loan move. It’s claimed that right now, the club can’t make an investment for his signing. That’s why his signing is ‘more complicated’.

It’s been claimed by the Italian media that Spurs have ‘already offered €45m + bonuses’ for the Argentina international, but the Serie A side ‘would like certainties beyond €50m’.

Barcelona wouldn’t get close to such a fee, and it remains to be seen how high Tottenham are willing to go for Romero.
