Somehow, Mario Hermoso remains without a club following the expiry of his Atletico Madrid contract at the end of June.
He’s long been seen as one of the best free agent opportunities on the market this summer. The 29-year-old can play in central defence or at eft back, and made 45 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side last season.
Atletico Madrid wanted to keep the defender but were’t able to tie him down to a new deal, with the desire for a new adventure paramount.
Multiple Premier League teams have been linked, including Tottenham and Aston Villa, however, it appeared Hermoso was off to join Napoli.
He even travelled to the city but a deal still isn’t done. Area Napoli say the transfer has stalled, and Hermoso is waiting for the Serie A side to move forward.
Tottenham and Aston Villa are said to be lurking in the background, along with Chelsea, and it’s made clear the player won’t hang around waiting for Napoli for much longer.
There’s a good opportunity there for Tottenham and Aston Villa and there’s not even been claims of Hermoso asking for a colossal signing on fee.
One to keep an eye on.
