Bild have got a great story on Monday afternoon. They claim to have details of what exactly happened as Red Bull Leipzig beat all-comers to secure a deal for Oliver Burke.
With a headline reading ‘How Leipzig tricked Barcelona’, Bild explain in great detail what happened over the past week.
A week ago, the Sports Total agency recommended Burke to RB. The leaders of the club evaluated the player by video, and decided they simply had to sign him.
On Saturday, the club’s sporting director Ralf Rangnick travelled by Learjet to watch Burke for Nottingham Forest against Leeds United. Rangnick was impressed further and on Sunday he flew with Burke back to Leipzig in the jet.
The 19 year old Scottish footballer was shown around the club’s facilities as well as the city.
But then, explain Bild quite dramatically, word spread among Europe’s top clubs of Burke’s private jet trip.
Arsenal and Tottenham are said to have made ‘frantic’ efforts to get the player to change his mind, but it was too late. Almost all the top clubs, including Barcelona, wanted Burke, say Bild.
They conclude by saying the fee paid is €12m, less than some other reports. Bild are very impressed by RB’s cunning and quick plan to sign the player, but if all the top clubs wanted him, then it’s a wonder the agency had to offer him around.
