Tottenham Hotspur are now named as one of the contenders to sign Pedro Porro from Sporting at the end of the season.
It’s Portuguese newspaper Record who today writes that the fullback has been receiving several approaches from interested sides. In January, his representatives are expected to meet the Lions to discuss a potential transfer, although he’s expected to stay at the club at least until the end of the season.
Tottenham are put among the four main clubs in this race. It’s claimed that Porro’s performances against Spurs in the Champions League, along with Antonio Conte’s ‘detailed observations’, have spurred the club’s interest.
The other three sides who are said to be ‘attentive’ to the 23-year-old are Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid.
Even though Porro was initially expected to leave for around €30m, his good season makes Sporting believe they can get something close to his €45m release clause.
And if it’s Tottenham who buy the fullback, they could actually enrich one of their Premier League rivals. Manchester City sold Porro to Sporting, and Pep Guardiola’s side are said to get 30% from the Lions’ profit with the player.
