On Tuesday, Tiago Pinto, the general director at AS Roma, suggested there was no guarantees that Nicolo Zaniolo would be at the club next year.
That quickly turned into a potential transfer story, with a number of outlets trying to figure out who could make a move for the attacking midfielder, and two names were quickly chosen: Juventus and Tottenham.
Both have links to Fabio Paratici, who is currently at Spurs but formerly worked with the Turin club, and he’s the common denominator here.
Tottenham have also held a long interest in Zaniolo, dating back to the José Mourinho days, who is, somewhat ironically, the Italy international’s current manager.
Still, it’s widely expected that if AS Roma do agree to sell him, Paratici’s current and former clubs will be there waiting for him, which has been pushed by Tuttosport’s director Xavier Jacobelli, who was speaking about the situation to TMW Radio.
Relayed by TuttoJuve, he said: “Such a statement from a sporting director is an eloquent message to those interested in the player. Juventus and Tottenham are the two most attentive clubs. The name of Zaniolo was in the famous piece of paper of Paratici a few years ago”.
