Tottenham may be given their chance to sign Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie in the summer as the Catalan club are now willing to do a deal for him.
That’s according to Sport, who say the midfielder has been put on the list of players who could leave the Nou Camp this summer.
They explain that after refusing offers for the Ivorian in January, Barcelona have changed their stance on a potential exit ahead of the summer transfer window.
Kessie had been an important player for Xavi since January, earning prominence thanks to a change in system and injuries to Frenkie de Jong and Pedri.
However, since those two have returned he has been shunted out of the picture again and Barcelona ‘no longer considers him non-transferable’.
That’s because the economic situation is tightening, and the club will need to make painful decisions to help balance the books. Kessie is thus one who could be moved on and, fortunately, he has suitors.
Tottenham and Inter Milan wanted him in the January transfer window and remain keen, with Spurs said to ‘already know first-hand’ that Barcelona are willing to negotiate a transfer.
That is very much the case, although the La Liga leaders have made it clear there will no loans with a purchase option and instead any deal will be a ‘hard transfer’.
Whether Spurs are willing to meet their demands remains to be seen and will be dependent on their new manager and director of football and their plans for the squad next season.
The interest, though, is there and has been from January, except Barcelona are now willing to talk terms and let a deal happen.
