Tottenham’s move for midfielder Pape Matar Sarr is progressing, with the youngster set to spend the season in France.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say Spurs are in ‘advanced negotiations’ with current club Metz, and the player’s entourage, regarding the move.

Tottenham’s surprise push for the youngster was revealed in France, with it explained that Fabio Paratici had seen an opportunity on the market and elected to go for it.

FM follow that up today and say that Sarri will sign a deal until June 2026 with Tottenham but won’t be joining them immediately; instead, it is ‘expected’ he will spend a season with the Lorraine-based club instead.

This is backed up by French journalist Ignazio Genuardi, who says that Sarr underwent a medical for Tottenham today and that he will then head back to France on loan for a year.

He says the biggest teams in England were chasing the midfielder, but it is Spurs who ‘won the bid’, and there is a ‘total agreement’ with the player. He, though, says he will sign a six-year deal.

Afrique Sports have their own take on the situation and say that Tottenham are paying €10m to sign Sarr, but the deal is €5m with €5m in bonuses.

Their source confirms that Spurs are ‘close to an agreement’ and the players entourage are in ‘advanced discussions’ to complete the move.

The feeling is that the deal could be concluded in the coming days, with Tottenham beating Manchester United and Manchester City to his signature.
