Mundo Deportivo have a daily ‘top secret’ section and it’s usually on some drama going on at local club Barcelona.
On Saturday, the Catalan newspaper include Barca, but look back at a transfer that never was. It’s claimed Barcelona came very close to signing Sergio Aguero in 2014.
The Argentine’s dream was to play alongside Lionel Messi, and both men would have been very happy to play on the same club team.
Mundo Deportivo say Barca had the Manchester City player ‘tied’, there was an agreement he would join the club.
City were the only obstacle in the way.
It’s claimed that despite wanting the move, Aguero chickened-out, because he didn’t ‘dare’ ask Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan to let him go.
The striker was aware what a huge investment the club had made in him, both monetary and in terms of effort, and didn’t want to go through the fall-out that he thought would come with asking to leave.
That’s the Catalan slant, anyway.
