On Wednesday, Bild reported Ao Tanaka was left out of yesterday’s training, after Fortuna Düsseldorf received a concrete offer from Leeds United.
Later that day, Rheinische Post said there are many indications that the midfielder is set to join Leeds in the next few hours. It was also reported his sale to Whites would be great news for the German club, and, to be frank, RP pretty much slated Tanaka.
Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg now claims the 25-year-old is about to seal a move to Leeds.
He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state that Tanaka ‘will join’ Daniel Farke’s side immediately. Plettenberg adds the Japan international will undergo medical tests with Leeds later today.
A report on Wednesday explained that Tanaka is valued at €4m, but Fortuna Düsseldorf are unlikely to receive that figure because his deal expires in 2025.
The Sky journalist now claims the second division German club will receive €4m from the ‘top player’s’ sale to Leeds.
Last summer, the English club made an approach for Tanaka, but didn’t take necessary steps to sign him. A year later, they are set to be successful in acquiring his signature.
Tanaka has made four appearances for Fortuna Düsseldorf this season.
