Leeds United may be regretting their failure to get a deal for midfielder Ao Tanaka over the line in the summer, with him now the ‘boss’ at Fortuna Düsseldorf.
BILD cover the player today and how he’s finally managed to bring his international performances, where he’s often been a star for Japan, to club level.
Since the turn of the year, he’s been ‘one of the best’ players for the German side, with a recent performances against HSV establishing him at ‘the boss in the midfield’ with ball recoveries and great passes.
He’s very much the star of the show at this moment in time and the Bundesliga side are delighted that he stayed at the club and never joined Leeds in the summer.
Several reports throughout the summer made it clear they were keen on the midfielder, but a deal never happened, with it later explained that they had only ever sent an email offer for him.
They may now be regretting that, though, as Tanaka has adapted and become the star for Fortuna Düsseldorf over the past few months.
Indeed, his ‘eternal desire’ to move on has even been put on hold after he failed to move in the summer and again in the January transfer window.
That means Leeds may have missed their opportunity, with his ‘top performances’ perhaps now meaning a transfer isn’t on the cards in future.
