Club Brugge ruled out a deal for Burnley’s Wout Weghorst earlier this year after deeming it ‘too expensive and too complex’ to be worth it.
That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, relayed by FC Update, who say the Belgian champions initially felt they had no chance of luring the giant Dutchman to the club.
The newspaper explains that Brugge had been looking at Weghorst as a potential replacement for Igor Thiago, who has left to join Brentford.
They were looking around the market at various options to replace the Brazilian, who was undoubtedly a key player, and the Burnley man was one of them.
However, that potential idea was quickly abandoned as the club decided it would be ‘too expensive and too complex’.
They also felt that they might have little chance of getting a deal over the line as Weghorst continually talked publically about wanting to move to FC Twente.
His performances towards the end of his loan deal at Hoffenheim and then with the Netherlands at Euro 2024 didn’t help matters either. They further added to Brugge’s belief the Burnley man was out of their reach and so the idea was left behind.
