Even though the rumours about Chelsea’s attempt to take over Portuguese club Portimonense have been quiet lately, newspaper Record today shares an update on that subject.
It’s claimed that following the Blues’ move to become shareholders at French side Strasbourg, they now prepare their next move in Portugal’s Liga Bwin.
Chelsea reportedly want to ‘enter deep’ into Portuguese football, and Portimonense is said to be their ‘favourite target’.
It’s recalled that the club previously turned down an attempt from the Blues, who offered €40m for 75%.
Todd Boehly is now said to be thinking of raising those numbers, even though it’s already been reported in England that the Portuguese side previously turned down an attempt from Manchester City.
Record adds that even though Portimonense are Chelsea’s biggest option, the London side’s owners have Jorge Mendes looking for ‘other possibilities’ in Portugal, and will continue to do so.
Premier League clubs spend hundreds of millions in the Portuguese market every summer, so it’s no surprise that they look for a partner in the country to try to find local talents early.
