Back in September, Sport Witness closely covered Bournemouth’s deal for Alex Jimenez.

The transfer went through on an initial loan and the Cherries signed the Spaniard permanently some weeks ago. That came after a series of impressive performances from Jimenez, whose switch to England has clearly paid off.

He’s played 25 times in all competitions for Bournemouth, showcasing his suitability to Andoni Iraola’s system.

Jimenez has now spoken about his time with the South Coast club, making it clear the low-pressure environment helps him a lot.

Jimenez enjoying Bournemouth

The 20-year-old spoke to Gianluca Di Marzio in a detailed interview. He was asked about his time at AC Milan, the decision to depart and how things are now at the Cherries.

Jimenez said the Premier League really suits his strengths.

“It’s a dream for me to play in the Premier League. I’m happy with my current situation.

“It’s true, the Premier League is more physical than Serie A and La Liga, but I feel very comfortable here. My main quality is speed, and this is the right environment to express it.”

The former Milan man said that the low-pressure environment at Bournemouth is much different to how things were at the Rossoneri and Real Madrid. The Cherries’ supporters are constantly supporting the players too.

“I grew up at the two biggest clubs in the world. Here at Bournemouth, life is more relaxed, there’s less pressure. The fans are always by our side, through thick and thin.”

Jimenez didn’t want Milan exit

The youngster revealed he didn’t want to leave Milan in the first place, but the club handled his situation poorly.

“I had a great time at Milan: I didn’t want to leave. But when the season started, I realised I wouldn’t be a key player. There were several situations I didn’t appreciate.”

Adding more details to the situation, Jimenez clarified he didn’t feel Milan trusted him enough.

“I wasn’t given the responsibility I thought I deserved. They should have believed in me more. I’ll give you an example. At the start of the season, I asked for the number 2 shirt. I wanted it for the tradition of great full-backs.

“They said no, they said I wasn’t ready, that I was too immature. They were wrong. From there, it’s true, I lost concentration and was late a few times.”

This comes right after it was speculated in Italy that the versatile defender had issues around discipline. However, he has now essentially responded to that, putting blame at Milan’s feet.

Only time will tell if similar issues crop up again. But so far, things are sailing very smoothly. In a way, this is Jimenez’s redemption after the chaotic exit from the San Siro.

The Rossoneri’s regret has subsequently become Bournemouth’s gain, with the player’s versatility proving very important this season.
