West Ham United defender Vladimir Coufal has admitted they are feeling ‘wonderful’ after their superb start to the season.

The Hammers have carried their fine form from last season into this campaign, with a series of impressive performances in the Premier League and Europa League.

The latest of those was a superb 3-2 win over Liverpool at the London Stadium on Sunday, a result that took West Ham to third in the table with 23 points from 11 games.

That’s the same tally Manchester City have and just three shy of Chelsea, who currently lead the table on 26 points.

It’s undoubtedly been an excellent start to the campaign, and while manager David Moyes has laughed off title hopes, a challenge for the top four is very much on the cards.

That would represent an unbelievable achievement for West Ham, and Coufal is delighted to be a part of it.

“Badly, because we are not first,” he told isport when asked what he thinks looking at the table.

“I’m joking, of course. It’s wonderful, we’re third, and we’re three points behind first place, which is absolutely amazing. I don’t think anyone imagined West Ham this high.

“We are three Czechs there, and we can play in a top big club. I think I can say that now.”

The win over Liverpool was just the latest in a series of impressive results for West Ham this season, who have also been impressing in the cups.

They’ve already qualified for the knockout stages in the Europa League while they are through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after wins over both Manchester City and Manchester United.

To put it bluntly, the Hammers are on a roll that does not look like stopping anytime soon, although injuries could, of course, change that.

For now, though, things are going very well, and Coufal believes it’s a result of he and his teammates being ‘more productive’.

“Our confidence is already high after last season. We are working, trying to improve our football,” he added.

“But at the same time, we have to admit that to beat Liverpool and knock out both Manchester teams in the Carabao Cup, you also need luck.

“Against Liverpool, we played very well, but Mané could have equalised in the last minute to make it 3-3. So you also need luck, and so far, that’s held us back. I think we deserve it because we are working hard. We are going for it.

“I think we are even more productive. We’re playing with the style that we’ve got. We defend well, we have nasty breaks, catching those four players upfront with our strength, quality and speed is very difficult.”
