BeIN Sports Turkey’s commentator Onder Ozen has claimed Leicester City’s Caglar Soyuncu is a target for Barcelona ahead of the summer window.

Ozen, who previously worked as an assistant manager at Fenerbahce and was also the former Besiktas sporting director, said Soyuncu deserves to play for Barca: “This is the second time I saw this news. And I am hearing from certain people too. I think this transfer is getting serious.

“We all know that Barcelona are looking to sign a player who can be the long-term replacement for Gerard Pique. I don’t think Caglar and Pique are similar, however, he could still fit the playing style very well there.”

Despite these claims it seems these rumours of Barcelona interest are only circulating in the Turkish press, and this hasn’t been strongly reported in the Spanish media. Over the past month or so, it’s no exaggeration to say more than twenty players will have been repeatedly linked to Barca, yet the defender isn’t one of them.

Indeed, now the Catalan media are covering the claims from Turkey, but not really adding any information of their own, suggesting that despite the Turkish report, there’s nothing serious at all.

The former Altinordu defender joined Leicester in 2018 from German club Freiburg and after his debut season he’s established himself as a key player in Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Soyuncu has formed a solid partnership with Jonny Evans and this has laid the foundations for the Foxes’ to grab a Champions League place.

The 23 year old has made 35 appearances for the Premier League side in all competitions this season, scoring one goal. His contract at the King Power Stadium will expire at the end of June 2023.
