Real Sociedad forward Mikel Oyarzabal has hit back at rumours about a potential move to Manchester City.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Etihad throughout the summer, with reports suggesting Pep Guardiola had identified him as the perfect replacement for Leroy Sané.

Ultimately he ended up staying in Spain, though, as an injury to Sané in the Community Shield win over Liverpool ended any chances of a move to Bayern Munich.

With the German working his way back to fitness and Bayern still keen, though, the links between Oyarzabal and Manchester City have not gone away.

Indeed, this week with El Confidencial reporting that they remain keen on a move and Pep Guardiola believes he is a player who can star for a big team.

It remains to be seen if that interest becomes something genuine, but Oyarzabal has hit back, suggesting that the rumours in the summer were fabricated.

“I have said a thousand times that I am in the place I want to be,” he told Radio Marca Donostia.

“Things have come out this summer that are not true. I am very happy in my home, and I feel very valued.”
