Tottenham are actively negotiating with Atlético Madrid over a deal for Cuti Romero, with a €55m plus variables deal on the table.
That’s according to journalist Rubén Uría, via Esto Es Atleti, who cover comments from him regarding the potential transfer on his Twitch channel.
Atlético have been linked with a move for the Tottenham defender for weeks, with it believed that Diego Simeone is determined to add him to his defence this summer.
He has reportedly been pulling out all the stops to get a deal for his compatriot over the line. So far, though, Tottenham have remained resistant despite claims they need a big sale this summer to help balance their books.
A report on Monday indicated that there had been progress on Atlético’s move for the Tottenham captain, even going as far as to say that Romero was ‘one step away’ from the Wanda Metropolitano.
Uría doesn’t go that far but does confirm that talks are underway between the two clubs for the 27-year-old.
“Sources at Tottenham confirm that they are talking to Atlético de Madrid about Cuti Romero. Confirmed,” he said when discussing the effort from the Spanish side.
He then went on to explain that talks are ongoing between Atlético and Tottenham, with the current figures at €55m plus variables. That, though, is a figure he doubts personally.
“It seems like a lot of money to me, too much,” he added.
