Everton are reportedly interested in Emiliano Martinez, and it’s not the Aston Villa goalkeeper we’re talking about.
The 24-year-old receiving Toffees attention is a Uruguayan midfielder who plays for FC Midtjylland in Denmark.
The interest from Everton was today revealed by the player’s agent Mauricio Machado, who was interviewed by Uruguayan radio Sport 890.
The representative claimed this isn’t the first time the Toffees chase the player, but they could actually get to sign him this time.
“Emiliano is doing very well today. He is playing. Thanks to his last few games he has been reserved for the Copa America. In June he’s leaving Denmark. We have teams interested in the Premier League and in Spain.
“Everton of England were interested in Emiliano Martinez some time ago and now they are interested again. It could be a good option for the middle of the year. Let’s analyse it.”
Everton’s interest in Martinez is also reported by Uruguayan journalist Uriel Iugt. On Twitter, he claims it’s very likely that the midfielder will leave Midtjylland in the summer. The Toffees aren’t alone in the race, though, as it’s again said that a Spanish club are also following him closely.
At this stage, it isn’t known how much the Danish side would demand for the midfielder’s transfer. He’s currently valued by Transfermarkt at €4m, and has a contract with his club running until 2027.
Everton’s financial issues make any signing difficult, but this one is at the lower end of the scale.
