Former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Fabio Silva has claimed they wouldn’t let him go earlier than this summer, when he joined Borussia Dortmund.

Ruhr Nachrichten have an interview with the striker today as he looks to get going at Dortmund following a slow start to life in Germany.

He signed for the Bundesliga side on deadline day of the summer transfer window, having pushed for a Wolves exit throughout the window.

The 23-year-old endured a frustrating few years at Molineux after arriving in a €40m move from Porto in 2020.

He was very much considered one for the future but could never establish himself as part of Wolves’ plans under various managers, instead spending year after year on various loan deals at Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven, Glasgow Rangers and then Las Palmas last season.

He has regularly spoken about his frustration on that point over the last few years, making it clear that he wanted to establish himself somewhere rather than bounce around Europe at various clubs on loan from Wolves.

The hope is that he can do that at Dortmund moving forwards, admitting that Wolves wouldn’t let him go earlier.

“As a footballer, you want stability. I like to stay in one place and build something for myself,” he said.

“It wasn’t quite so easy with Wolverhampton. I wanted to move earlier – but they wouldn’t let me go. But I didn’t have any prospects either. So, a loan was the only option.

“Of course, it wasn’t my plan to be loaned out every year. But I had no other choice. And there was something good about it: At 23, I’ve already gained a lot of experience and can handle many situations today.”
