Marseille have been told they may face the ‘disastrous’ version of Newcastle United in the Champions League this week.

RMC Sport cover comments from Christophe Dugarry about the Magpies today. He appeared on the show “Rothens’ enflamme”, where he was full of praise for Newcastle.

Newcastle head to Marseille tomorrow to take on Roberto de Zerbi’s side in the Champions League. They head into the game after a positive weekend in which they successfully beat Manchester City.

That was a big moment for them after something of a slow start to the season that’s left them 14th in the Premier League. They’re currently six points outside the top four, and five outside the top six.

They’ve fared better in the Champions League, though. The Magpies head into this round of games sixth in the table on nine points. They’re three points behind leaders Bayern, Arsenal and Inter Milan.

The big problem for them has been consistency. While they have often impressed against the big sides, making life difficult for the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, they’re struggled in games they’d expect to win.

Newcastle United have particularly struggled on the road, with Dugarry labelling them as ‘disastrous’.

“This match will help me further my assessment of De Zerbi,” he said.

“Newcastle is a good team, but they’re only the 15th best away team in the Premier League. There are two Newcastles, the one at home and the one away, which is disastrous.

“Are OM capable of beating Newcastle? I say yes. In my mind, Marseille are equipped to beat Newcastle. We must have that as our objective.”
