Last week, Gazzetta dello Sport floated the idea of a swap deal between Newcastle United and Juventus for Sandro Tonali and Jonathan David.
The Bianconeri saw the Canada international as a sweetener to potentially land the midfielder, who was described as a ‘transfer dream’ by the newspaper.
The possibility of a move like this is already fading and that might be good news for Newcastle United.
Calciomercato IT make it clear that ‘there’s no room’ for a deal like that.
This is mainly because the Magpies haven’t opened up to the idea of Tonali leaving anytime soon. As a result, the chances of a January exit have been described as ‘truly slim’.
Beyond that, Newcastle United are also unlikely to be interested in David. Eddie Howe’s side have Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa and don’t need the 25-year-old in their squad.
This trashes Juve’s plans entirely but the mere suggestion of the swap deal was also quite strange. It seemed quite desperate and was just a way for the Italian media to talk about Tonali once again.
Everything suggests that if Juve really want the midfielder, they would have to pay straight cash. And an awful lot of it, something which may be beyond reach.
