Sunderland have AS Roma’s Artem Dovbyk on their agenda for the winter market.

Two days ago, Gazzetta dello Sport reported Roma director Frederic Massara has offered the striker to the Black Cats. It was also reported Sunderland sporting director Florent Ghisolfi could help his side beat West Ham in the transfer race.

On Thursday, the same newspaper reported the Serie A side, who want €22m plus bonuses, are awaiting offers for the Ukraine international.

Sunderland interest in the 28-year-old is now backed up in his country by journalist Igor Tsyganyk. Novyny Live have relayed his comments.

He has found out from sources that the player is attracting interest from the Premier League. Régis Le Bris’ side have been pushed forward as an option in January.

“I know there’s interest in Artem from PL clubs, and he hasn’t disappeared anywhere. I heard about the option with Sunderland, as well as that West Ham continue to monitor the situation.

“Saudi Arabian clubs also showed serious attention to Dovbyk earlier, but it is difficult to say whether this option is relevant now.”

The frontman has managed two goals and one assist from 14 matches this season. The Italian media have pushed him towards the exit door. Tsyganyk now claims otherwise.

Despite Dovbyk’s mixed performances, Roma aren’t in a rush to make a decision because manager Gian Piero Gasperini continues to count on him.

In short, it’s not given that Dovbyk will change clubs in the next window. Sunderland have to convince the player and Roma to try and get this deal over the line.
