Leeds United are closely following Mjällby AIF goalkeeper Noel Törnqvist, according to a report from Sweden.
The 21-year-old has been a regular for the Swedish club since the start of this year, and has kept 11 clean sheets and conceded 34 goals from 29 games.
Fotbollskanalen state his performances have caught the attention of the European clubs, including Leeds.
It’s claimed the Championship side and FC Copenhagen had their scouts in attendance in his side’s 1-0 defeat to AIK Solna last weekend, and this has been confirmed by Mjällby AIF sporting director Hasse Larsson.
“That’s right. There were two more clubs, two Dutch clubs, who were also there to watch,” he said.
Törnqvist has a contract until 2026 and the Swedish club’s director has made it clear none of the interested parties have taken concrete steps just yet.
“There is an interest, absolutely. We’ll see what happens, we haven’t received anything concrete. We have only received requests,” Larsson explained.
“I think we have a contract for four more years. It is difficult to answer [of retaining him beyond January], but we are happy to keep him for a while longer. Then we’ll see, it depends on what comes.”
He was then asked if there has been any contact from Leeds and the Danish club so far. The Mjällby director added: “It’s fairly broad. There were four clubs that looked at him and there have been clubs that looked at him before.”
It’s isn’t the first time Leeds have looked at the Sweden U21 international. Back in 2018, when Törnqvist was at IS Halmia, his agent revealed that the Whites had presented an offer.
At Elland Road, Illan Meslier is currently the first-choice goalkeeper under Daniel Farke.
