If Crystal Palace fans have any fingernails left, it’s time to start chewing them over Oliver Glasner’s future.

That’s if SportBILD and journalist Phillipp Hinze are to go by anyway, as they both report that the Austrian remains firmly in RB Leipzig’s sights.

The former kick things off by reporting that the Crystal Palace manager remains the German side’s number one target for the Bundesliga side this month.

They need a successor for Marco Rose, who was fired in March, but finding him has proven to be a difficult task so far. Glasner is one of the preferred candidates alongside Cesc Fabregas, but both are hard to obtain.

Neither have a release clause at Crystal Palace or Como, they are comfortable at their clubs and where they live, are being courted by other clubs too and are ‘accordingly expensive’.

The good news for Crystal Palace is that Glasner is ‘significantly more expensive’ than Fabregas, who would command a fee of €5-8m. Rumours have the Austrian at around €20m. Leipzig only want to pay a sum in the single digit million range.

But that’s not put them off and the play is to press ahead next week once Crystal Palace’s season is finished.

Hinze backs this up somewhat, reporting that nothing has changed as far as Leipzig are concerned. Glasner is still being discussed alongside other candidates. ‘There’s hope’ as far as they’re concerned, even if he would be challenging to secure.

The key is that Leipzig haven’t given up and they haven’t received any ‘unequivocal rejection’ either. In other words, the Crystal Palace boss remains firmly on the table.

He adds that things are set to pick up in the coming days, especially after the weekend, as that’s when the English season will be over. Leipzig’s desire is to hire a new coach by the end of May.

Whether that’s Glasner remains to be seen, but it could be a nervy week or so for Crystal Palace regardless.
