Fulham were linked with a move for AS Roma’s Matias Soule in the winter transfer window.

The player later stated that he wanted to stay in Rome, even if the Italian giants were evaluating any approaches that came their way.

Soule’s decision is paying off. He has been in fine form in the last few weeks and was on fire against Monza on Monday evening, assisting once and helping his side to a 4-0 win.

His agent Martin Guastadisegno has now spoken to Tuttomercatoweb and he confirmed interest from Fulham, revealing that the London club were the most interested party in the Argentine.

He said: “Fulham sought him a lot, as did Valencia in Spain and Betis. There was no shortage of requests from Italy either.”

Guastadisegno also stated that his client is now happy at Roma, as manager Claudio Ranieri played a key role in keeping him at the Stadio Olimpico.

He said: “The truth is that he is happy now. Like everyone else, he dreamed of space, trust. When Ranieri told him in January that they would reject all the offers, he also promised Mati that he would let him play and now he is doing it.”

Soule’s agent also mentioned that it is too early to talk about his future.

“It’s too early to talk about it now. What matters now is just to continue playing with this confidence.”

This suggests that Fulham could still have a chance of signing the 21-year-old in the future.

Having said that, a lot could depend on how Soule performs in the remainder of the season.

He has started the last two league games for Roma and also started against Napoli before that, playing the entire game.

This shows that Ranieri is starting to trust the winger often and if that keeps happening, Soule could end up staying in Rome in the longer term.
