Liverpool looked at signing a new centre-back last summer and there were numerous claims suggesting the Reds were interested in Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

The need to strengthen the position increased in the final stages of the last window after Joel Matip joined Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in the long-term absentees.

Davies is yet to feature for the Merseyside club, while Kabak hasn’t convinced so far.

Two days ago, Il Mattino reported Liverpool and Bayern Munich are looking at Koulibaly for the next market. There were other claims suggesting the Bundesliga winners have made an offer for the Napoli player.

According to Monod Napoli, the Bavarian club have not made an offer for the Senegal international and will not consider making an approach for him.

However, the defender’s stay with the Serie A side is ‘far from obvious’, meaning he could leave the Naples club in the summer.

Mondo Napoli states ‘there is Liverpool’ as Koulibaly has been in the ‘good graces’ of Klopp ‘for years’.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager hasn’t ‘abandoned’ the idea of signing the 29-year-old for the Merseyside club to form a ‘phenomenal’ defence along with Van Dijk at Anfield.

Whether or not Liverpool’s idea of signing Koulibaly can turn into a reality remains to be seen.
