Last summer, Julián Alvarez joined Atlético Madrid after spending two years at Manchester City.

The Argentina international won the treble in his first season at Manchester City and the FIFA Club World Cup and Premier League title last season.

Two months ago, the striker insisted it wasn’t easy for hm to leave Manchester City for the La Liga side.

Infobae have now interviewed the 25-year-old, and he again talked about his exit from the Etihad.

The World Cup winner has scored 20 goals and registered five assists from 39 matches for Los Rojiblancos.

With regards to his decision to leave Manchester City for Atlético, the outlet asked Alvarez whether he’s more comfortable in Spain than in England or if his move was down to the manager and something going wrong with the Citizens.

When responding to that, Alvarez said he was happy at Manchester City and his desire to seek a new challenge convinced him to change clubs.

“No, no, the truth is that at City, since I arrived, they trusted me. They brought me from River [Plate] to Europe,” he said.

“I played a lot of games, I scored a lot of goals, we won titles. That was perfect. And if I had stayed there, I would have been comfortable too. I’ve always said I’m very grateful to the club, but I did need something.

“Something inside me told me that I needed a different challenge, to look for something new, which wasn’t motivation, because I’ll always want to go on for more, but something I don’t know. A different challenge in my career.

“And I felt that this could be my place to develop myself better, to find my best version of myself as a footballer. So, it was a bit like that.”

Infobae then asked the South American whether he had a ‘bad time’ with Pep Guardiola’s side.

“No, no, not really. You do want to play in the most important matches. Like I said, I don’t know, in the final of the Champions League; I didn’t get in. I didn’t play long in the semi-final, and I would have liked to have played in those kinds of games. That’s what I was saying before and that’s why I think about the change,” Alvarez explained.

The frontman managed 36 goals and 17 assists from 106 matches for Manchester City.
