Arsenal summer signing Mikel Merino insists he is getting better every day as he continues to adapt to his new club.

AS cover comments from the midfielder today in which he admits he’s still adapting to his new life at the Emirates.

Merino had something of a difficult start to life at Arsenal after arriving in a €32m deal from Real Sociedad at the end of August.

A should injury picked up in his first training session saw him spend a month on the sidelines, missing nine games for club and country until returning at the beginning of this month.

He’s since bounced back from that injury and started both of Arsenal’s last two Premier League games, bagging his first goal for Arsenal in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.

The 28-year-old was impressive in that performance, demonstrating the talents that made Arsenal so keen to sign him in the summer transfer window.

Gunners fans will be hoping he can build on that moving forwards and establish himself in Mikel Arteta’s team alongside the likes of Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.

Merino is certainly hopeful that there is more to come as he continues to adapt and settle in at the Emirates.

“I feel good, I’m happy.  Little by little I’m getting the hang of the mechanisms they want to implement with the team,” he said.

“Of course, it’s been a big change from what I was doing before to what I’m doing now.  Each club is very different.  New language, new city, new culture…

“With the injury it wasn’t the best start for me, but thanks to all the staff, my teammates, my wife, my family, everyone has supported me a lot to turn things around and little by little I’m doing it.

“I still have a long way to go, but if I have one thing, it’s the desire to improve and learn, and well.  I’m happy because the goal helps me continue to gain confidence, to help the team even if it’s not to give them the three points, and the feelings are improving.”
