Thursday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport has Rasmus Højlund splashed across the front page with the word HOJLANDIA shouting out.
The Italian newspaper reports the striker and Kevin De Bruyne were ‘astonishing’ on Wednesday evening as Napoli beat Sporting 2-1.
Højlund was forced out of Manchester United in the summer window despite wanting to fight for his place. The Denmark international scored both goals for Napoli in the Champions League and pointed at the CL badge on his arm after his first. Manchester United, of course, haven’t qualified for the competition.
There’s growing excitement around Naples that the local club may have just pulled off another Scott McTominay style coup, or something close to that.
Corriere dello Sport rate the 22-year-old’s performance as 8/10. That’s a good score and no player got higher.
Over at Gazzetta dello Sport they pick Højlund out as being ‘The Best’, equivalent to their Man of the Match decision. They also gave 8/10.
Tuttusport go even higher with 8.5/10.
Rasmus Højlund now has three goals since his Manchester United exit and will want to add to that quickly.
