Norwich City manager Philippe Clement says the euphoria in the stands is pushing his team on to move further up the table
Sporza have an interview with the Norwich boss today. the Belgian explains what’s currently fuelling his side’s return to form.
He arrived to take charge at Carrow Road back in the middle of November following Liam Manning’s departure. He took over with them 18th in the Championship and seriously facing a relegation battle.
They’ve not moved from that position since but are, crucially, looking up rather than down. After a difficult start, the Canaries have now won four of their last five league games. A league table since his appointment has them firmly in mid-table. The latest of those wins was 2-1 defeat of league leaders Coventry City, following a 5-0 win over West Brom six days earlier.
The Canaries are flying, looking to move up the table in the second half of the season and put relegation concerns firmly in the rearview mirror. They are, though, only four points away from the bottom three.
Clement isn’t concerned by that, though. Instead, he says the passion from the fans is fuelling his players on the pitch.
“I’m a builder,” he said.
“It is my intention – and that of the club – to build something out for a number of years. They give the keys in my hands.
“My mentality fits here. We have a very young core, who has yet to learn what is really winning. Not one win and then less. Because in the Premier League you have to perform every three days.
“If you look at the euphoria in the stands and compare that to ten weeks ago. It’s the opposite. That gives the fuel to do this job.”
