Christian Eriksen’s situation is one of the most talked about issues in Italian football right now, with the problem building for some months.
Having arrived from Tottenham during the 2020 winter window, the transfer was hugely hyped both by Inter Milan and the sport media close to the club. It was felt the Serie A side had got a good deal, and things started off reasonably well.
That didn’t continue and Eriksen is slipping away from prominence at Inter, with repeat reports that Antonio Conte just isn’t a fan of the Denmark international. The manager doesn’t feel Eriksen has the necessary commitment to his system, and that he lacks the huge desire Conte wants from his players.
Naturally, that’s all seen claims Eriksen could leave in the January window, with multiple Premier League clubs, including Tottenham themselves, linked with taking him.
A Spurs return sounds unlikely, and if Luca Serafini is correct, it can likely be completely ruled out.
The Italian journalist, quoted by Inter News, suggested the London club were aware the player was on a downward slope: “The suspicion is that the last year, and the period with Jose Mourinho at Tottenham , had a precise foundation. That’s why Tottenham got rid of him: evidently he was at the end of the race.”
Eriksen’s contract ending was the biggest driver for his exit, but it may be true that Mourinho hadn’t been impressed so didn’t put up much of a fight to keep the 28-year-old.
