Last summer, Leeds United allowed Brenden Aaronson to join 1. FC Union Berlin on a loan deal, and he’s largely struggled since. The attacking midfielder has been restricted to 671 minutes of action from 26 games, and that includes only five league starts.
Last month, the German press labelled the 23-year-old a flop because he hadn’t produced a lot at the Bundesliga side.
At the weekend, the Leeds owned player came off the bench to score the 84th minute winner for Union Berlin against TSG Hoffenheim. The American has been speaking to Bild and has said that he had to be patient to get opportunities at the German club.
“I had to be patient. But I kept working, went to the gym and practiced shooting after every training session,” he said.
The Leeds man has also made it clear he feels the lack of regular game time is a reason for his struggles at Union Berlin.
“I don’t want that to sound cliché, but I’ve always played a lot. That’s why it was difficult to sit on the bench,” Aaronson explained.
The attacking midfielder remains hopeful of helping the Bundesliga side until the end of this season.
“I can create a lot of chances with my style of play, I want to build on that and hopefully contribute many more goals and assists,” he added.
Aaronson will have to return to the Championship side after this season, where he has a deal until 2027.
