Rangers completed the signing of Ryan Naderi from FC Hansa Rostock at the end of the winter market. Danny Röhl’s side pushed hard to bring him to Ibrox on deadline day.

Rangers initially offered €3m for the striker and the third division German club turned it down. On Friday, they rejected an improved offer of €3.6m from Röhl’s side. A day later, the striker played the full 90 minutes in Hansa Rostock’s 3-0 defeat to FC Ingolstadt.

The Ibrox club were initially open to signing him and letting him finish the season in Germany. Hansa Rostock didn’t entertain this, but Rangers didn’t give up. Their efforts finally paid off as he completed a permanent move to Glasgow on Monday.

Ostsee-Zeitung covers what happened behind the scenes and get Hansa Rostock manager Daniel Brinkmann’s reaction over losing the 22-year-old to Rangers.

After the striker played the entire match against Ingolstadt last Saturday, the feeling was he would finish the season in Germany.

It’s claimed the situation changed the next morning [last Sunday]. Later that day, Hansa Rostock sporting director Amir Shapourzadeh updated the coach via WhatsApp. The newspaper states: ‘Many more phone calls followed, as well as a larger Zoom conference’.

The German club initially refused to let the player leave and changed their stance towards the end. This clearly surprised Brinkmann.

“That was a shock at first. We lost a player who was really good for us. From a coach’s perspective, it’s difficult because he’s judged on results and naturally wants to work with the best possible squad,” he said.

Naderi’s move to Ibrox allowed the German club to collect a record fee from Röhl’s side.

Ostsee-Zeitung claim Shapourzadeh, Hansa Rostock CEO Ronald Maul and supervisory board’s two representatives explained to the squad about their decision to sell Naderi to Rangers.
