Inter Milan have turned down the chance to sign Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita in the summer when he becomes a free agent.
That’s according to FC Inter News, who say the Italian side have not included him on a list of possible reinforcements at the end of the season.
They explain that the marriage between Keita and Liverpool has not gone particularly well, and he has fallen to being a ‘luxury reserve’ at best under Jurgen Klopp this season.
It is because of that he is leaving on a free in the summer, when he is likely to be one of the ‘most visible’ free transfers on the market, despite never really performing to his best at Anfield.
That had made him a possible option for Inter, who are on the hunt for low-cost targets to reinforce their squad given their delicate financial situation.
The Liverpool midfielder was therefore ‘offered’ as a replacement for the departing Roberto Gagliardini, but the Nerazzurri’s response was ‘cold’.
They made it clear that they hold the Guinean in ‘maximum esteem’, but he is not on their list of options thanks to a high salary and a long list of physical problems which have hampered him at Liverpool.
Simply put it was a case of ‘thank you, but we don’t need him’, with their priorities lying elsewhere and Keita seemingly not on his way to Inter once he departs Liverpool.
