It seems Paraguayan youngster Matias Segovia could have ended up at Crystal Palace.
That’s according to the Belgian media, who today shares a full story on how his career has been managed by John Textor’s network of clubs.
Outlet DH recalls that Botafogo were the ones to find Segovia at Guarani back in 2023, at a time where even Barcelona had been tracking him. They paid €1.4m for the signing, and he quickly showed his potential at the Brazilian side.
Textor then decided to take the player to one of his clubs in Europe, and it’s claimed that Crystal Palace and Lyon were considered as potential destinations for him this winter.
Segovia ended up in Belgium because of a dip in form, though, where RWDM signed him on a loan until the next summer.
It’s said Textor’s decision was to give him a ‘change of scenery’, as he can get some more experience for when he gets back to Botafogo.
DH are full of praise for the youngster, claiming he has an ‘imposing profile’, and calling him a ‘very technical player’. So far, he only made two appearances for the Belgian side.
In case he has the expected development, we shall see whether Crystal Palace will get a second chance at bringing him to London, through Textor, of course.
