Tariq Lamptey made a big career decision at the end of the summer window. With his situation at Brighton not looking like it would give him the prominence he wants, the 24-year-old set off for Serie A.

Lamptey will have seen multiple players take the Premier League to Serie A route to success in recent years and hoped for his own.

Having moved to Fiorentina on September 1st, he’d already picked up some football. Brief appearances against Napoli and Como were followed by an injury scare.

Unfortunately the worst fears have been confirmed by Fiorentina and Lamptey now faces a lengthy spell out.

Just weeks after buying the player from Brighton, La Viola have released the following statement: ‘ACF Fiorentina announces that the player Tariq Lamptey has undergone, starting on Monday, September 22nd, a series of clinical and instrumental tests, both static and dynamic, to establish a diagnosis following the injury he sustained during the Fiorentina-Como match on Sunday, September 21st. Given the complex clinical situation, a diagnostic arthroscopy was performed this morning by Professor Mariani.

‘The surgery revealed an isolated tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The type of injury, however, required anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, which was a complete success. The player will return to Florence in the next few hours to begin his planned rehabilitation program.’

Having already undergone the required surgery, Lamptey is starting out the long road to recovery. Fiorentina don’t provide a timeline but it’s obviously going to be a lengthy layoff with the rest of the season in doubt.

Lamptey was held back by injury on multiple occasions at Brighton last season and it’s terrible luck such a blow has come so soon after his transfer.
