Wednesday evening saw ESPN report that Manchester United are set to finalise Erik ten Hag as their new permanent manager.
Several other English outlets then joined ESPN to claim the Ajax boss is currently leading the race for the Old Trafford job, ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino.
Algemeen Dagblad have relayed claims made in the UK press and then share their own information on this case.
They state ‘sources within Ajax’ have assured them ‘there is no agreement yet’ between the 52-year-old and the Red Devils. They further add a ‘multi-year contract’ is ready for the coach at Old Trafford, but Ten Hag is ‘in no hurry to act’.
Ten Hag is managed by the Sports Entertainment Group [SEG] and it is the same agency which a court has this week ordered to pay €4.75m in damages to former client, Stefan de Vrij.
SEG were said to have also represented Inter in talks when the defender was moving to the Milan side. De Vrij apparently wasn’t aware and believed they were solely representing him.
The player’s wages were then potentially lower than they would have otherwise been, with SEG getting a higher commission in the process.
With the latest blow, De Telegraaf on Thursday explain SEG are considering appealing the court’s decision.
When providing details about the agency, the newspaper goes on to mention their client lists includes Ten Hag, who is currently the ‘most coveted football coach’.
It’s claimed SEG, on behalf of Ten Hag, are ‘holding major discussions these weeks’ with clubs that want to hire the Eredivisie manager.
The report further states this includes a ‘top club in the Bundesliga and, of course, Manchester United’.
It’s to be noted that De Telegraaf didn’t hesitate to name Manchester United in their report, but don’t name the Bundesliga side.
