Erik ten Hag’s assistants René Hake and Jelle ten Rouwelaar are staying at Manchester United for the time being, with their futures yet to be determined.
That’s according to journalist Arjan van der Giessen via Voetbal Primeur, who has spoken to the duo following Ten Hag’s dismissal this week.
The Dutchman was sacked following the weekend defeat to West Ham United and is set to be replaced by Sporting Club de Portugal manager Ruben Amorim at some point in the near future.
Manchester United have moved quickly for the Portuguese coach’s signature this week ad are believed to be close to finalising a deal for him and several of his staff members to arrive in the next international break.
What happens to Ten Hag’s staff when Amorim arrives at Old Trafford remains to be seen, with the Sporting manager’s plans on that front yet to be revealed.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has taken charge of Manchester United on an interim basis this week, has already declared he would like to stay in some capacity if Amorim will allow it.
Hake and Ten Rouwelaar have not been so open about their futures and Van der Giessen now reports that’s because they are yet to be given any details by Manchester United.
“That is of course an emotional question. It is extremely difficult,” he said.
“We just spoke briefly with René Hake, who joined us for a moment, and also with Jelle ten Rouwelaar.
“They both said: ‘we don’t know what the future will bring. Will there be a new manager, perhaps new assistants… We’ve been told we’re doing a good job, so for now we’re assuming we’ll stay here’.”
