Manchester United are interested in Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, with Erik ten Hag a big fan of the player.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Spanish side are confident of keeping the player in their squad next month.
Zubimendi has been earning himself a growing reputation in Spain with a series of impressive performances for La Real since making his La Liga debut in April 2019.
The 23-year-old is highly regarded and has recently been linked with a move to Barcelona, where Xavi is known to be a big fan and wants him as the long-term successor to Sergio Busquets.
They are not the only interested party, though, with Mundo reporting that Manchester United and Chelsea are also ‘on the lookout’ for the player.
The newspaper reports that the player’s ‘sensational campaign’ has not gone unnoticed by the Premier League duo and, Manchester United in particular, are ‘monitoring him’.
That’s because Ten Hag ‘likes him a lot’ and would be more than happy to add him to his midfield, despite Casemiro arriving in a big money move in the summer and continued links to Enzo Fernandez.
At the moment there is calm at Real Sociedad and there are ‘no surprises expected’ at the club in regard to the player.
They know that there is interest in him, but they are ‘confident’ that they will be able to keep their rising star next month and potentially in the summer.
That’s because they have Zubimendi tied to a deal until 2027 and that includes a €60m release clause, a figure which has already acted as a ‘deterrent’ for Barcelona.
Whether that is for Manchester United, however, remains to be seen.
