Even though Manchester United’s defence may be looking fine with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, it seems Erik ten Hag is still pushing to have more options in that sector.
According to outlet Fichajes, the Red Devils’ boss is interested in the signing of Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan, as the 23-year-old continues to impress at the Italian side.
The report claims that by taking leaps of quality with the Nerazzurri, Bastoni ‘gives the feeling of needing a club with higher aspirations’, and Manchester United are labelled as a side who could end up offering him that.
It’s said Ten Hag ‘asks’ the Red Devils’ management ‘for an effort’ to sign the defender. The player is said to be the ‘great obsession’ the manager has for the defence, with the Dutchman being the ‘main supporter’ of his recruitment.
Manchester United, however, wouldn’t have such an easy job to land Bastoni. Firstly, because of his renewal with Inter Milan until 2024, and then due to the big competition for him, as the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid are interested in his signing as well.
On top of that, they’d surely need to part with at least a couple of central defenders first.
