Newcastle United have become the latest club to be credited with an interest in Lazio’s Mattéo Guendouzi.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say Newcastle are trying to sign him in the summer window.
The Serie A side are set to make the midfielder’s stay permanent after signing him on loan from Marseille last summer.
He didn’t have a good relationship with Igor Tudor, and his future remains uncertain even after the manager’s exit. The Italian club, for their part, want to retain the 25-year-old.
Guendouzi had a spell at Arsenal between 2018 and 2022, which may help adaptation. Even though the Biancocelesti have a desire to retain him, Gazzetta say they could evaluate his sale if there’s an offer of at least €30m.
It remains to be seen whether Guendouzi will be able to resist a call from England, where Eddie Howe’s side ‘tempt him’. As well as Newcastle, Aston Villa are in the picture to sign the Frenchman in the next window.
