Newcastle United’s hopes of solving their striker crisis with the signing of Porto striker Samu have been hit as he’s picked up an injury.
AS cover the situation today and explain that the striker had to come off during Monday’s 2-0 victory over Gil Vicente due to injury.
All indications are that the injury is a bad one too as his ‘expressions of rage’ were evident as he departed, with the striker seen covering his face with his shirt as he cried. Once he sat down on the bench, he could also be seen in tears.
The injury appears to be a major set back and come at the worst possible time as he is one of the names being strongly linked to Newcastle United. They had reportedly been eyeing him up as a replacement for Alexander Isak, who continues to try and force a move to Liverpool.
They’re only likely to sanction that if they find a replacement but so far, their efforts to do that have proven to be fruitless.
Samu could have been the one but now he appears set for an extended spell on the sidelines after his worrying withdrawal from Porto’s latest game.
Asked about the injury after the game, Porto boss Francesco Farioli wasn’t offering any words of comfort for the striker or Newcastle either.
“We’ll see tomorrow [Tuesday], we have to evaluate. I won’t say anything now, tomorrow morning we’ll see,” he said in comments relayed by A Bola.
Samu’s plan this season had been to stay and grow further, with Porto happy to keep him unless Newcastle United or another club went crazy.
