Oh to be Danish right now!
The enthusiasm of the country’s sport media is often infectious. Pretty much like the English media, the Danes go way over the top with praise and optimism, and then match that by reaching the lowest depths when things go wrong.
Not having quite yet reached the resigned cynicism in England, it’s still pleasing to see the Danes excited over potential good times ahead, and that’s very much the feeling ahead of the World Cup playoff matches against Republic of Ireland.
Monday’s edition of Ekstra Bladet looks at the ‘aces’ in the Danish pack, and of course Christian Eriksen is one of them. The Tottenham Hotspur star is considered to be in the best form of his life by the newspaper, and the praise is handed out in such a way.
Should Denmark make it through to Russia, and Eriksen keep up his form with Tottenham, then next summer is going to be a whole circus of positivity coming from Copenhagen and around the country.
Unfortunately, should it all go wrong, Eriksen may be returning to Tottenham on a huge downer that’ll need all Mauricio Pochettino’s motivational skills to shift.
