Sporting Lisbon forward Bas Dost has given his backing to international teammate Vincent Janssen after a slow start at his new club Tottenham Hotspur. Janssen joined the Premier League side in the summer, but unlike Dost at Sporting, he’s found goals hard to come by.

Voetbal Zone have reported on comments Dost made to Dutch TV when he asked about Janssen’s perceived struggles at Tottenham. Dost believes the former AZ forward isn’t in such bad form, and that it has been overhyped. The Sporting Lisbon star thinks Janssen has done well since arriving in England, and also showed his qualities whilst playing for the Netherlands.

Dost and Janssen are rivals for a national place, and the Sporting striker was asked if he’s somehow content watching the Spurs striker struggle for goals: “No not at all. I also think it is very exaggerated. I think that he’s done very well, even with the Dutch national team,” said the Netherlands international on Janssen.

Janssen signed for Tottenham in the last window for £17m, but has just one goal to his name so far this season.

It was hoped he would get his chance to shine with the recent ankle injury to Harry Kane, but he only came on in the last minute against Manchester City yesterday, and has seen others push ahead of him.
