Over the past week, the idea that Gustaf Lagerbielke could be leaving Celtic had done the rounds in Italy, with a couple of teams interested.
Lecce were the first, and were soon joined by Genoa in taking an interest in Brendan Rodgers’ centre-back, as the latter needed to replace Radu Dragușin.
However, the story went a bit dry over the weekend and at the start of the week, but Gazzetta dello Sport have now brought it back on Wednesday, as they mention the Celtic player in a story about Lecce’s plans.
They explain the Swede is ‘the target’ for the Serie A side this transfer window when it comes to bolstering their backline, and they certainly haven’t given up on him.
What does stand in their way, however, is the wages the 23-year-old is on at Celtic and the cost of a transfer, as they are currently prohibitive to a move.
This was the problem last week too, meaning there would be a need for the player and his club to help them out.
Either way, Lecce have not gone away, and Celtic need to be mindful of this, because if they want to get rid of Lagerbielke, which it was previously hinted they might be, then talks need to be opened.
