On Friday, ESPN reported Arsenal’s Jorginho would only move to Brazil to join Palmeiras or Flamengo.

Globo Esporte now cover Flamengo’s desire to sign the 33-year-old in the winter market.

The Brazil-born Italy international has less than six months left on his deal and can leave Arsenal as a free agent in the summer.

Flamengo are keen on the midfielder and have started negotiations to secure his services in January. They have informed Jorginho of their desire to offer a three-year deal but are yet to make a decision on the salary.

According to the report, the Arsenal player has had a video call with Flamengo manager Filipe Luís and their sporting director. They are trying to convince the 33-year-old that he will have a key role at the club.

Globo claim the deal in January depends on the Gunners letting him leave for free. This claim is relayed by Tuesday’s edition of O Dia, and they state Jorginho is the ‘talk of the town’.

Flamengo have started talks with Arsenal, who it’s said have previously informed Jorginho they will let him leave if he were to receive an offer he likes. That’s on account of the appreciation they have for the service he’s given the club.

Therefore, the newspaper claims there’s an expectation for Mikel Arteta’s side to give him the green light to leave for free.

That sounds incredibly benevolent from Arsenal, and perhaps too good to be true for Flamengo.
