Swansea City have been linked with a move for Brazilian winger Gabriel Silva, but Portuguese reports are split on how real that interest actually is.

Record report that Swansea City have already made an approach for the 23-year-old. The Championship side see him as a priority target to strengthen their attack.

The report adds that Santa Clara are open to negotiations from around £4.3m (€5m), viewing the winger as one of their most valuable assets.

The same outlet links Swansea’s interest to their coaching staff. Head coach Vítor Matos works alongside Diogo Medeiros, who spent the last two seasons at Santa Clara and knows Gabriel Silva well. That background reportedly helped place the Brazilian high on Swansea’s shortlist.

However, A Bola take a notably different stance. While confirming the player was mentioned internally, the newspaper stresses that Swansea City currently face significant limitations.

The club must comply with the financial sustainability rules set by the EFL, which restrict spending in this window.

Because of those constraints, A Bola state that Swansea City are not planning any active move in the Portuguese market at this stage. That context casts doubt on the idea of a concrete approach progressing in the short term.

Swansea City effort may be likelier in summer

Gabriel Silva

Gabriel Silva joined Santa Clara on loan from Brazilian side Palmeiras in the 2022-23 season. In August 2023, the Azorean side bought 50% of his rights for close to £860k (€1m). His contract runs until June 2027.

He has made 117 appearances for Santa Clara, scoring 21 goals and providing eight assists. The winger also came close to joining Sporting Braga last summer, but that deal collapsed due to an €8m valuation.

Swansea City may be likelier to move during the summer.
